@ SOUTHWEST MIDDLE SCHOOL
PARENT INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in the YMCA After School Zone at Southwest Middle School which is funded in whole or in part by the Orange County Citizens’ Commission for Children! The After School Zone is a FREE program that takes place on campus each day, offering a variety of enrichment classes for the students to get involved in and enjoy. Some of these classes include; indoor and outdoor sports, arts & crafts, computers, Homework Help, math tutoring, sewing, game room, cooking, and fitness.
The hours of activity are: M, T, Th, F 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wed. 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For each child you wish to register, complete both sides of the registration form completely, including the medical release and history, emergency medical information and waiver. Enrollment will only be accepted with a complete registration form. Be sure to sign the form, then return the completed form to the site coordinator, your child’s first-period teacher, or the front desk staff. Only people listed on the registration form will be allowed to pick up your child. Anyone picking up your child (including yourself) must be prepared to present identification daily. Please note that you MUST sign your child out if you come before 6 p.m. This allows us to keep track of your child’s whereabouts and insures a designated person is picking up your child. The YMCA After School Zone closes promptly at 6 p.m. While the program is free of charge, a late fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged after the program’s end. This payment must be received at the time of pick-up or your child will not be allowed to participate in the program until the fee is paid. For students who reside in Tangelo Park, Caribbean Key Apartments, Millenia Cove, or Mission Pointe Apartments, an After School Zone activity bus will be available MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY for a ride home. These students will be dismissed at 5:50 p.m. in order to board the bus in the bus loop at the front of the school. The activity bus departs at 6 p.m. sharp each day. Monthly newsletters will keep you informed of upcoming events, announcements and kudos to our students/staff. The newsletters will also keep you informed of days when our program will be closed due to school closings, holidays and/or emergencies. In addition, we will notify the students through announcements and postings. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 407-370-7200 and contact Diane Nakagoshi at ext.229 or Laura Cilento at ext.239.
