ex. Beautiful Boy by David Sheff This is the story of a father's account of his life and the life of his family, while dealing with a meth-addicted son. It's written in more of an autobiographical format with facts, statistics and helpful information on drug addiction mixed in. The story is well-written, even when dealing with such a depressing situation. I was, however, frustrated by some of the things that the father did to try to molify the situation with his son's addiction. It was a realistic account none the less. The thing that I found most helpful about the book was that it seemed to be told from the heart, and it caused the reader to reflect on what they might do in a similar situation. In that light, the novel was very compelling. I would recommend this book to students who may know someone who is an addict; students and parents who may be dealing with addiction in some capacity; parents who might wonder what the signs of addiction might be ; anyone who wants to find out more about the meaning of addiction.
