Reading and Language Arts:

We continue with discovering writing along with our other language arts and literacy skills. Students will be introduced to different writing styles along with poetry and onomatopoeia. Students also focus on a different concept of language arts per week such as contractions, verbs, sentence structure, etc. Students will now receive fourteen spelling words instead of only twelv e every week and a packet. The packet is due by the end of that week and there is also a spelling test on Friday . In December we will also be integrating Earobics as our main site for technology incorporated into learning. Please check out the site at home with your child: www.earobics.com

Science:

We now move onto plants: their system, life cycle, parts, habitats and adaptation . We have also started a science vocabulary notebook which students will be using almost every day. In it, students will be learning and developing a new science word by predicting, hypothesizing, illustrating and understanding. Students will be researching, compar ing and contrasting and using creative writing within this science topic.

Other:

Homework is always 20-30 minutes of reading, whether in English or in a foreign language, as well as a spelling packet given on Monday and returned by Friday. Unless there are special projects, this will be the consistent homework procedure until the end of the year.

** My webpage is going through technical difficulties. Thank you for your patience as I am working through them. I will inform you as soon as my site is up and running!

** Students enjoy working with hands-on projects when approaching a new topic. Please help us by donating materials we need: play dough, bean bags, paint, crafty materials, etc. There is a “giving tree” outside our classroom with apples of things we need.

Math:

We have now completed Topic 3 on positional language, 3D shapes and patterning. Students now move onto Topic 4: Recognizing Numberals 0 - 9. In this topic, students will learn to solve word problems, write, identify, symbolize, represent, and add using these numerals.

Reading and Language Arts:

We continue to review different letters per week developing our phonemic awareness and phonic skills. Students are bringing home letter bags that they should bring to school throughout the week with objects they have found at home that begin with that letter. They have been enjoying this “scavenger hunt” as have I. Thank you so much for participating in this with your child. In addition to this, students continue to work on their chunking and blending of letter sounds. We have been using a software known as Earobics which has been a great asset in developing these skills.
Please read with your child every day to encourage a positive introduction towards literacy!

Science:

Last month we were planning to study animals and their changes, however, we were busy with fall and the changing season and holidays. We will continue through December on our topic and will be finished just before the holiday break. I hope to be using butterflies and tadpoles as a classroom observation project. If you or someone you know can provide our class with butterfly eggs, caterpillars, or tadpoles it will be greatly appreciated. This is going to be a very fun topic for our kindergarten class and will tie in with our field trip to Green Meadows!  I will also need a lot of help with future projects. Please sign up with ADDitions and let me know your time of availabili ty.

**I will continue communication with you through our daily agenda, weekly homework sheets, emails, the home-school communicator (red folder) and my website once it is updated.

**Students love to do hands on, kinesthetic learning projects as they approach a topic. We really need materials such as play dough, bean bags, paints, and other crafty items. We have a “Giving Tree” outside our classroom filled with things we need. Please take an apple and donate to our classroom to further enhance our creativity as we go about learning. Thank you for your support.
