Materials

A. Voices: Vocal health is extremely important for singer of all ages and abilities. This will be discussed and reinforced daily in class.
B. Materials:

• Every chorus student will be provided with music and a music folder by the Choral Department. As wit textbooks in other classes, these items are to be returned in good condition at the end of the school year. Students will be responsible for paying the replacement cost of lost or damaged folders and music. Students may SIGN-OUT their music folders on the days they would like to take their music home. Music taken home and not returned or forgotten for the next day’s rehearsal will result in zero participation points per day missed. Music folders may be checked out daily (unless specified by the director), but they must be returned and signed-in BEFORE FIRST PERIOD the following day!
• A sharpened pencil with eraser.

C. Financial Responsibility: The AMMS Choral Department request that a $10 donation be paid to help cover the cost of music, transportation, and other various items needed to maintain the Choral Program. This donation is substantially lower than many other area middle schools. Students are also required to purchase a Chorus T-Shirt and Uniform and described in the uniform section.
** If you are unable to meet the financial responsibility for any reason, please contact Mr. Ross via letter (please include student name on letter), phone or e-mail. DO NOT WAIT until the last minute. NO student will be removed from the program for financial reasons; the choral department will find a way to make sure every student is taken care of, within reason.

D. Uniforms: Please read the uniform guidelines carefully. The way we appear on stage (messy, sloppy, clean, neat) sends a powerful message to our audience. What would you like that message to be?
If you do not follow these guidelines and show up to a performance unprepared, I WILL SEND YOU HOME and you will lose your performance points.

All Students: You will need to purchase a chorus T-Shirt for $10. This shirt will be worn during our first and last concerts tucked in along with blue jeans and sneakers. The jeans must not have any writing on them or holes and the sneakers must be laced up if they have laces. The T-Shirts will also be worn during various field trips during the year, if it is not a performance based trip students will be permitted to wear shorts.

2nd and 6th Period Girls: You will need to rent a black chorus dress for $25. In addition to the uniform, students must wear BLACK DRESS SHOES (closed toe, closed back, 1 inch heeled pumps). All necklaces, bracelets, watches, and BIG earrings (or piercing in any place visible besides the ears) must be removed for the concert. Only tiny stud earrings may be worn in the ears. Girls must only wear only black barrettes, hair ties, etc. hair must be worn up, back and away from the face for all performances.

4th and 5th Period Girls: You will need to purchase a blue and black formal dress through the choral department. This is a new dress this year thus used dresses are not available. The cost of the dress is $70. In addition to the uniform, students must wear BLACK DRESS SHOES (closed toe, closed back, 1 inch heeled pumps). All necklaces, bracelets, watches, and BIG earrings (or piercing in any place visible besides the ears) must be removed for the concert. Only tiny stud earrings may be worn in the ears. Girls must only wear only black barrettes, hair ties, etc. hair must be worn up, back and away from the face for all performances.

3rd Period Girls: You will need to obtain a blue formal dress through the choral department. Slightly used dresses are available for $25; see Mr. Ross for more details. In addition to the uniform, students must wear BLACK DRESS SHOES (closed toe, closed back, 1 inch heeled pumps). All necklaces, bracelets, watches, and BIG earrings (or piercing in any place visible besides the ears) must be removed for the concert. Only tiny stud earrings may be worn in the ears. Girls must only wear only black barrettes, hair ties, etc. hair must be worn up, back and away from the face for all performances.

2nd and 6th Period Boys: You will need to purchase black tuxedo pants, a white wing tipped tuxedo shirt, and a black bow tie and cummerbund. This comes as a packaged deal and will be purchased through the choral department; the total cost is $50. If you already own any portion of the package already, contact Mr. Ross and he will give you the cost of what you need. Black dress shoes and socks will also be needed and is the responsibility of the student. Black tennis shoes are NOT allowed. All necklaces, bracelets, watches, and BIG earrings (or piercing in any place visible besides the ears) must be removed for the concert. Hair must be kept out of the boys’ eyes for all performances.
