INTRODUCTION

Orange County Public Schools Mission Statement:

Each student will acquire the skills, attitudes and knowledge necessary to reach full potential.

Library Media Specialist Mission Statement:

School library media programs enable students to learn.  Through promoting reading appreciation, teaching information literacy skills, providing access to intellectual resources, facilitating critical thinking and independent learning, Orange County Public Schools library programs contribute to student achievement and the support of lifelong learning.

The Orange County Library Media Procedures Handbook is designed for use by library media specialists and their staffs.  It is the purpose of this handbook to clarify policies, to give specific details where standardization is recommended, and to offer suggestions for improved library media administration and operation of a school library media center.  While most decisions made in the operation of a school library media center are site specific, made in collaboration between school administrators and library media specialists, Florida State Statutes pertaining to media centers are cited, as are any available Orange County school board policies.
