Challenged Materials Policy(OCPS Challenged Materials Procedures)
Complaint
Complainant completes the "Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Material" form
Form is submitted to the school.
A review and evaluation process is initiated.
During the review process the use of challenged materials by the student, class, school or district shall not be restricted until final disposition has been made by the appropriate review committee.
School Level Review
The principal recieves/acknowledges the receipt of the written complaint.
The principal and media specialist explains to the complainant the steps involved.
The principal and media specialist notifies administrators including the associate superintendent, and involved teacher(s) to include the Literacy Council.
The Literacy Council reviews the challenged item in its entirety.
Written recommendations are presented to the principal.
The principal presents the written committee report to the complainant.
If the principal is unable to resolve the complaint at the school level, the complaint form and written report of the Literacy Council shall be submitted to the appropriate associate superintendent as directed by OCPS Board Policy.
