Lori Lovell, Lyric Soprano, holds the degrees Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal
Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Master of Music in Vocal
Performance and Pedagogy from Ohio University, and Bachelor of Arts from The
Ohio State University in Voice Performance. She has studied with Paul Kreider,
Marjorie Bennett Stephens, Karen Peeler, and Christopher Michel. Lori is an
active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and has served
in the offices of President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of the NATS Las
Vegas Chapter. Lovell's professional affiliations also include ACDA, FMEA,
MENC, and the College Music Society.
Currently, Dr. Lovell is the Director of Choral Activities at Maitland Middle
School within the Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida. Her students
have consistently earned Superior ratings in solo and choral music performance
assessments at the district and local levels, and most recently, her chorus
was invited to perform the world premiere of Stephen Edwards' Requiem at
Carnegie Hall in November 2006. The Maitland Chorus was most recently featured
in a performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana with the Bach Festival
Society of Winter Park in October 2007.
In addition to public school teaching, Lovell serves on the voice faculty of
Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Dr. Lovell has also served as the
Artistic and Musical Director of the Bach Festival Society Choral Academy of
Winter Park. Lovell has taught on the faculty of the Community College of Southern
Nevada as a Voice and Music Appreciation instructor, and continues to teach
music courses through their online Distance Education program. Lovell has also
taught for the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Ohio University, and West
Virginia University - Parkersburg.
Dr. Lovell has done extensive research into the songs of American composer,
Richard Faith. A sampling of her performance credits include Beethoven's Cantata
on the Ascension of Emperor Leopold II with the Bach Festival Society of Winter
Park, Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, performed with the Henderson
Symphony, and Bernstein's Candide. In addition to being a frequent recitalist
and guest soloist, Lori’s operatic credits include the roles of Lucy
in Menotti’s The Telephone, Pamina and the Second Lady in Waiting from
Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Hannah Glawari (title role) and Praskovia
in The Merry Widow by Franz Léhar, and Sara Quint in the premiere recording
of The Ghost of Miles Quint.
