Welcome to fifth grade at Union Park Elementary! I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year while working with you and your child this year. Together we will watch your child grow in many ways: physically, academically, socially, and emotionally. Our curriculum includes the Open Court Reading program, Everyday Mathematics, Harcourt Science and social studies. In addition there are various centers within the room that are available daily to enhance all areas of developmentOne of the major goals in my classroom is to promote responsibility. This is a difficult, but important life skill. Please reinforce this skill at home by stressing to your child that is his or her responsibility to complete assignments and turn them in on time. We will spend a great deal of time discussing the importance of making wise decisions and accepting responsibility for poor choices. As you can tell, we will be learning much more than academics. I feel challenged to prepare my students for their futures. I am excited and grateful to be teaching your child this year. We have a lot of terrific plans in store for the upcoming year. I am anxious to get to know your children's unique personalities. I know it will be wonderful and at the same time challenging for all of us. We can all work together to help our children learn, grow and become part of the community here at Union Park Elementary.
