This past weekend 10 DMS students took part in the All-County Orchestra Festival at Dr. Phillips HS. Students in the Auditioned Orchestra worked with Mr. Jim Palmer, a well-respected violist and clinician. Students in the Honors Orchestra worked with Mr. Jimmy Gilliam. All the students have had a lot to share with their peers, everything from how to "spin" the string, to learning great new ensemble skills. One of the students even learned how to do vibrato while participating.
Two DMS students will be representing Discovery in the All-State Orchestra this January in Tampa. Cusuh H. and Cindy H.were selected from this ensemble from among hundreds of string players in the state of Florida. The auditions are very competitve, and we are extremely proud of these two ladies.
Students in all of the guitar and orchestra classes will begin selecting music for the FOA Solo & Ensemble Festival in February. This is a great opportunity to prepare music by yourself or with a group, and then perform in front of a judge for a score. All of my students are strongly encouraged to participate, and Chamber Orchestra students must participate in some way.
The Concert & Chamber Orchestras will perform Saturday, December 1st at the Breakfast With Santa in Waterford Town Center. Come out to hear some great holiday music by the DMS Orchestras at 10:30 am, and stick around for some pancakes.
Preparations for the Winter Concert are well underway, as all the classes work on music for this performance. The concert will be held December 17th at 7 pm, in the Performing Arts Center at Timber Creek HS. This is a mandatory performance for all classes.
I am adding some new features to the website, and I hope you will check back soon for more information.

Extra Credit #2- Posted 11/12/07
Be one of the first 10 students to email the answer to this riddle and receive 25 points extra credit.
"I am a female composer from England. I was a violist and am especially remembered for the music I wrote for that instrument. In fact, I published so many pieces that some of my pieces were published under the pseudonym "Anthony Trent" so my name wouldn't show up so many times on recital programs. Who am I?
