Vocabulary Words
Throughout the school year, your child will be building their vocabulary using a program called Text Talk. In this program, children’s literature is used to introduce students to more advanced vocabulary. Over a period of about two weeks, they will learn six new words. These words will be presented in class through a variety of activities. In order to help your child master these words, they need to be used at home as much as possible. The new words will be listed under your child’s spelling words every other week in their planner and will be written using colored pencil. Approximately every two weeks, your child will be given a short quiz. Your child DOES NOT need to know how to spell these words, as many are extremely advanced. They will be given six sentences in which they have to identify whether the word was used correctly or not. Through the in class activities, your child will be prepared for this quiz. We are asking that you make a habit of using the words over the two week period as well as praise your child when they use the new words.
