World Geography: Europe and The Americas**** The seventh-grade course, World Geography: Europe and the Americas, covers the continents of Europe, South America, and North America. The content explores geography, culture, history, and the Civic Core (i.e., a study of American society and politics, and other people’s ideas and lives both past and present that have influenced the development of the American democracy). The Civic Core unit traces the foundation of democracy by comparing the government of ancient Greece with that of ancient Rome. It builds on knowledge of these two ancient civilizations developed in sixth grade and provides a bridge from sixth to eighth grade in the Civic Core sequence. In many ways, this document bears similarities to prior scope and sequence documents, however, to provide county-wide consistency specific topics were determined to be essential knowledge that should be taught by teachers and mastered by seventh grade students. The seventh grade course is designed to build upon content introduced in elementary school and skills obtained in the sixth grade course, World Geography: Asia, Oceania and Africa. Together these two courses provide students with an appropriate foundation for tenth grade World History.
