NESTS
Nurturing Every Student to Succed This is a student advocacy program with the classroom teacher serving as mentor to 22 students of the same grade level. Each group meets for 25 minutes every day during the school year. This time has many and diverse purposes, but the most important one is help students feel connected and have fun. Students bring many risk factors to school. These factors affect their attitude toward learning. As mentors, it is possible for students to learn certain pro-social skills to increase their resiliency to these risk factors. These skills include goal setting, organization, time management, study skills, character education, standardized test taking strategies, and life management skills. Students need to feel safe at school. Positive interactions with adults and peers give students a sense of belonging and fosters a sense of confidence and achievement. |
