Writing Workshop
In kindergarten we are following Lucy Calkins' unit of study for writing. The first unit, Launching the Writing Workshop, focuses on putting ideas on paper of what the writer has experienced, telling small moments about yourself from something you remember. We have been emphasizing telling a story with pictures and have begun working on adding text to our stories, such as labels and "words" to match the pictures. Each Writing Workshop begins with a mini-lesson to teach or reinforce a writing concept before the students independently write. Their writing is kept in individual writing folders that will help to chronicle their development as writers.
